W in the chat

(Internet slang, leet) Used to express joy, particularly that felt during success or victory.

A win. Used as a noun, adjective, or interjection — "that's a W," "W take," "W rizz." Can also mean approval of someone's decision. Pairs with "L" as the universal binary of social-media outcomes. "Big W" amplifies; "smaller-than-expected W" registers narrow victory.

A mid W is a win that technically counts but fails to generate any real excitement — a victory so underwhelming that even celebrating it feels embarrassing. You got the callback but the job turned out to be nothing special. The date went fine but 'fine' is the ceiling. Your team won but you played terribly and everyone knows it. Mid W captures the particular deflation of getting what you wanted and discovering it wasn't as good as the wanting. It's also used affectionately to undercut overcelebration, throwing shade at someone who's treating a minor achievement like they won a championship.

A double co-sign: not just a win, but a legitimate, defensible one. W valid is what you drop when someone's decision, action, or take was correct AND real — no asterisk, no luck, no ethical shortcuts. It's the most complete form of approval available in the slang economy: you won, and you did it with integrity. Rare because both conditions have to be true simultaneously. When someone earns a W valid, you know they've actually done something right.
