Originally slang for a chilled beer, 'cold brew' has been hijacked by coffee culture to describe coffee steeped in cold water for 12-24 hours — producing a smooth, concentrated, low-acid drink that's taken over cafe menus everywhere. Whether you're grabbing one from a tap at a trendy coffee bar or pouring it over ice at home, cold brew has become the default summer coffee move for anyone who finds iced coffee too watery and hot espresso too much of a commitment.

Informal slang for coffee, playing on the fact that coffee is brewed from roasted coffee beans — making it, technically, bean water.
